How Long Do Dilaudid And Hydrocodone Remain In The System?

Yes you can help me please! I have been taking biped opine for 2 yrs. I fell and had a triamalulor brake in my leg and ankle and sprained the other one. The ambulance picked me up and I told them I was an addict and I took bups. They asked if I wanted pain meds and I was in excruciating pain so I said yes. They gave me a shot of fentenal and it didn t do a thing. When I got to the emergency room they gave me all kinds of IV pain meds. The dr. Did surgery the next morning. I was at the hospital for 3 weeks. Then they sent me home with diladid and Hydrcodone. I ve been taking them for 15 days. Went back to my Bup Dr. And he said I have to wait a week then come back and test my urine again. How long does it take for them to get out of your system? I really dred going through the withdrawals. Could you please help with my questions?

Hello,

Several points. The drug in the blood/brain/body has about a 3 (hydro and oxycodone) to maybe 6 (Dilaudid) half-life and duration of effect of about double the half-life with a lag from oral administration of up to an hr.

Urine stays positive for up to a week after then but generally a bit less. BUT secondary effects last way longer. Withdrawal starts maybe within 24 hrs of the last dose but peaks at 3 to 7 days after that. The withdrawal lasts a WHILE.

The reaction to narcotics both internally (one's own) and externally (all of them) is changed by being on narcotics after a while and this tolerance lasts at least weeks.

So, the doc obviously has been in this situation before and is making good estimates.

There are other ways of handling withdrawal other than giving narcotics.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
