How Long Can Docusate Sodium Be Taken After Gallbladder Removal?

Last week I had my gallbladder removed (research says was best option). I m looking up the drugs they have me on and one is Docusate Sodium which is used for occasional constipation. The constipation has passed, is there a reason to continue to stay on it, if yes what is the reason? Thanks, Bob

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If you are no longer constipated then the docusate which is a laxative, should be discontinued.

Persistent use of laxatives can eventually cause or worsen constipation because they stop the bowel from working properly on its own.

They should only be used very infrequently if absolutely needed.

I hope this helps
