How Is Chronic CIPD Treated?

My partner has cipd . He has had a range of treatments but nothing seems to help for any length of time. He has had the condition for over ten years . The condition has affected his body in many ways, from lose of motor skills, to eye sight, to breathing difficulties, to pneumonia. Today he collapsed with chest pain and he is back in hospital. When first diagnosed he was told he had Gillian Barre but now it is cipd. His specialists have told me that his condition is chronic. How much worse can it get!!!!! I need to somehow prepare myself for the worst but hope for the best. Please help us.

Hello,

What your referring to I don't understand.

From your history he may be suffering from CIDP. It is a chronic condition of unknown etiology lead to inflammation of peripheral nerve lead to this problem.

It is confirmed by nerve biopsy. It may be treated according to the stage of the disease.

Treatment for CIDP includes corticosteroids such as prednisone, which may be prescribed alone or in combination with immunosuppressant drugs. Plasmapheresis (plasma exchange) and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) therapy are effective.

But please consult your treating doctor he will examine and treat you with appropriate drug.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu, Internal Medicine Specialist
