How Is Prograf Toxicity Indicated In A Lung Transplant Person?

I had a lung transplant in Dec 2016 and take Prograf. The nurse coordinator at Mayo in Jacksonville said my levels are at being toxic. What would the side effects be so I would have a chance to call her before it gets that far. They have reduced my dosage and I go for blood work tomorrow.Thank you Peggy Miceli

Hi,

We will try to help you in the best way possible. First of all, it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, the Prograf carries a high incidence of renal toxicity and alongside its therapeutic index is so narrow that levels are measured regularly to keep under therapeutic range.

Renal functions and electrolytes can be measured on follow up however occasionally the higher than normal levels of Prograf are found and come back to normal with dose adjustment and skipping few doses after consulting your primary care physician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
