How Effective Is Plan B In Preventing Pregnancy?

Hi, I have a kind of unique situation. Me and my boyfriend have been having sex frequently during the past few months. In may, I forgot 2-3 pills and then I found out I had ecoli. I was put on nitrofuran (macrobid) for the infection. Later, i found out that it can make birth control ineffective. I was raped last friday and took plan b. I have no had my period and I do not want it to be the rapist s baby. Is it possible that I am pregnant from my boyfriend or would it be the rapist?

Hello,

Nitrofurantoin doesn’t interact with contraceptive pills and does no cause contraceptive failure. Plan-B is very effective and failure rate is very very rare. So pregnancy is very unlikely in this case. We can detect the paternity only by genetic testing, if you become pregnant (chances are very unlikely) we can go for amniocentesis and match with your partner to determine paternity.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
