How Effective Is Progyluton In Treating Infertility Problem?

I have a hard time conceiving. I am a 28 yr old woman. Previously tried to naturally conceive for 3 years but was unsuccessful. Did blood work etc. and was put on Metformin and Dostinex(a medication to control my prolactin levels). Long story short, I was able to get pregnant after 6 months on these two medications. Now, 2 years later, I want to get pregnant again. I was prescribed Progyluton. I have to take as directed until I get pregnant. My question is, are my chances of getting pregnant high since I was already able to? How effective is Progyluton in terms of getting pregnant?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Proguyluton is a combined hormonal pill containing estradiol and norgestrel. It is used to treat irregular menstrual period. It is taken from D1 of cycle for continuous 21 days. After stopping them, you will get period within 7 days of pill-free day.

It has a dual effect:
1. Acts as a contraception by inhibiting ovulation.
2. Regularizes monthly period.

If you are taking them continuously, then there is very less chance for pregnancy.

Since you are having the polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD), it is prescribed to regularize the period. You may need to take it for shorter duration and then take ovulation induction drugs like clomifen or metformin to increase the chances of pregnancy.

Kindly consult a gynecologist in this regard for appropriate follow-up and management.

All the best.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
