How Effective Is Nitrofur-Macr 100mg For Treating Bladder Infection?

My husband was prescribed the medication "Nitrofur-Macr 100mg" (twice a day) for a bladder infection. It was for 10 days. He has taken 8 days-worth, but now is sick with body aches (possible cold, maybe fever). He is wondering if he can stop the meds now altogether, or if he can stop for a day or so THEN take the rest, or if he should force them now - even though he knows it is going to make him feel even sicker?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As he is on 8th day of antibiotic with body ache, there seems possible that the bacteria responsible for the infection are not susceptible to Nitrofurantoin antibiotic.
* I recommend to consume further doses of newer antibiotic as per the urine culture report only, at present he can stop current antibiotic.

Hope this will help him a lot.
Wish him fine recovery.

General Surgeon Dr. Anders Mark Christensen's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

By the 8th day of antibiotic treatment for a simple UTI, symptoms should have regressed. If your husband feels worse, I suggest you see the doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
