How Effective Is Augmentin In Treatment For Bronchitis?

how come augmentin has not worked for my bronchitis(day 4)? I usually get prescribed zpac which does the trick. Called back my doctor at urgent care and she called a rx for zpac. Just wondering why the augmentin did not work. Does that mean my body is resistant to it? I usually take antibotics once a year for the same thing, usually bronchitis.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.
I have read you history carefully.
Yes, it can be due to resistant strain of bacteria. Another possibility is it may be caused by virus or different type of bacteria which are not sensitive to augmentin.
Bacterial resistance can be diagnosed by culture and sensitivity but they are costly and time consuming. So mostly, empirical treatment is given based on suspicion and clinical experience.
Your doctor might have suspected resistance, so switched to zpak antibiotic.
Hope this will be helpful.
Thanks for using HCM. Take care.
