Hi, I m A 21 Year Old Female Who For The Last 3/4 Years Has Suffered Badly With Tonsillitis, Finally I Have An Appointment With Out-Patients On The 30th Of August At 2:50PM To Have Them Removed. I Don t Really Know Much About The Procedure And Would Like To Know More About What Actually Happen s; Also Would I Have To Stay Overnight? I m Very Nervous In Hospital s And Would Rather Be Aware Before-hand If They Are Likely To Ask Me To Stay. Thank You For Your Help.

Hello,

Tonsillectomy we indicated in patients with repeated tonsillitis or it may lead to respiratory instruction or difficulty in swallowing or associated complications etc.

Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Don't worry the surgery will take from 1-2 hours. Postoperative observation is needed for 1-2 days.

They also examine for postoperative infection or primary or secondary haemorrhage. It may take 2-3 weeks for complete recovery and to the healing of the wound.

Please consult your ENT specialist he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
