How Does Large Hiatal Hernia Cause Low Iron Level?

how does large hiatial hernia cause low iron leveland what do I do to correct it? I am 79 years old and in good health until I had a low blood count from 12 down to 8, had transfusion of 2 pints of blood, had colonscopy and endoscopy and was told I have large hiatial hernia.
