How Does TICE BCG Treatment Help In Curing Bladder Cancer?

My dad was diagnosed with bladder cancer and he is not likely to change doctors. They took a tumor out in October and lesions recurred in December that were not significant and he was traveling. This month they found additional lesions brought him in and cauterized all. They replanting for him to go in for TICE BCG treatments on Monday. HE does not really talk about this stuff.....so I found out late. What is the action of TICE-BCG? It sounds like the cancer is in situ??? if lesions can be cauterized correct? If TICE BCG is prescribed then it is an early stage? Correct? IS there anything he should do to avoid symptoms? Should he be drinking tons of water to flush the chemo?

Hi,
I would like to answer your questions separately
1) Action of TICE BCG: TICE BCG is a live attenuated(does not cause infection) strain of a kind of mycobacterium that causes inflammatory response and leads to destruction of superficial tumors in urinary bladder when administered locally.
2) Sounds like carcinoma in situ: Cauterization and TICE BCG are usually used in carcinoma in situ and early stages of superficial cancer.
3) Yes TICE BCG is usually used in the early stage for recurrent cases
4) No, drinking tons of water is not required to flush out the chemo. Drinking only normal or prescribed amount is sufficient.
I hope the above information helps you. You can discuss the above information with your oncologist or urologist. Thanks for writing into healthcare magic.
