How Do Prednisone, Pepcid And Diphenhydramine Medicines Work Together?
I went to the er for poison ivy and Virginia creeper reaction. Some parts of my body is covered in red hive large patches, other parts, red bumby eczema looking rash and some blusters on my fingers and wrist. All very itchy, some swelling but mostly itchy & stings in warm environment. I was prescribed Prednasone Pepcid and Diphenhydramine. I am not clear on how these 3 drugs work together. Can some please explain? I read that (Benadryl) should not be taken with steroid. Is this true? Thank you.

Pepcid is most often used to treat reflux and gastritis but it is also used to treat severe allergies. It is a histamine receptor 2 blocker.
Histamine is a chemical released in the body that plays a role in causing the allergic reaction.

Hi!! All these drugs are effective in allergic contact dermatitis. Prednisolone has antiinflammatory and immunosuppressive action while pepcid is mainly prescribed to reduce acidity that is caused by prednisolone. Dyphenhydramine is basically an antihistaminic that reduces itching and it can be easily taken with the steroid . Both can be taken together without causing any adverse effects.
