How Do I Stop Moaning In My Sleep?

Hello, I have moaned in my sleep since I was a young teen. My sister use to wake me and make me turn over so I would stop. I am now 54 years of age and my husband says that I moan very loud and will snore some too. I have even woke myself up moaning before. Whether it is a moan or snore I am not able to quit and if I am sleeping light enough I can hear myself in my sleep. Is there anything that I can take or use that can stop this problem?

Hello!

Welcome on Healthcaremagic!

Regarding your concern, you should know that your problems could be related to the anatomy of your airways or jaw. Airway obstruction or sleep apnea can not be excluded.
Unfortunately there is not any specific drug, which can help in this situation.
But if obsgtruction is observed, surgery may help. If sleep apnea is observed, a CPAP device would help.
For this reason, I would recommend performing some tests:
- a chest X ray study and pulmonary function tests for obstruction
- a polysomnography for sleep apnea.
You should discuss with your doctor on these issues.
I would also recommend you to lose some pounds if you are overweight.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!
Best wishes, Dr. Aida
