How Can Wheezing And Shortness Of Breath Be Treated?

I had pneumonia in 1997 and recently began running long-distance again. I am a male, 63 years of age in good health. I have noticed a wheezing when I run and wondered (fearfully), if I am going through another bout of pneumonia. While I have short term shortness of breath, it goes away after the run stops. Do I need to worry? Never mind. I don t have any excess money for this. Thank you anyway. I didn t realize this cost. It does not say so before you present the question. I will find out on my own.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of wheezing and shortness of breath which is due to lung infection leading to bronchitis. Poor immunity exaggerating your symptoms. The symptoms can also occur due to condition like anaphylactic shock, post nasal drip or upper respiratory track infection. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles with pinch of salt water. Avoid taking hot, spicy and fried food. Avoid cold carbonated beverages and don't smoke and alcohol. Take expectorants. Steam inhalation is very effective for you. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist without any delay . Doctor may order blood test , throat swab test or virus culture test. You should get an x ray of the chest and Immunoglobulin G levels checked for further treatment. Doctor may also refer you to pulmonologist. Take decongestant nasal sprays containing mucinex for instant relief. Apply humidifiers in room.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
