How Can Weakness And Dizziness While On Lisinopril?
I was recently prescribed microzide 12.5 in addition to the lisinopril 20 mg I was already taking in hopes to reduce swelling in my ankles. The lisinopril alone is controlling my blood pressure. I was expecting to have increased urination because I heard diruretics to that but I have not; and the swelling has not subsided. The main side affect I am experiencing is weakness and dizziness. What should I expect if I continue to take this medication and should I continue? Thank you.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Microzide is a diuretic, but usually it's not accompanied by urination increasing, and it's not a first choice in treating ankle edema, because of it's slight diuretic effect. If you are using only Lisinopril and the blood pressure is normal, it's okay to continue using it.
If you want a treatment for ankle edema, you can use Lasix 1/2 tab before breakfast, but carefully, because it has a strong diuretic effect, and may cause hypotension, dehydration and electrolyte imbalance.
Hope I have answered your query.
