How Can Wasp Sting On The Forehead Be Treated?

I got stung by a bee or wasp or hornet on my forehead two days ago. It swelled and hurt as you would expect. Yesterday when I saw my reflection It didn t look like me you could see my eyelids because they were puffy. Then today I notice the swelling where I was stung is minimal but my neck and back/chest feel sore. Also the swelling has gotten worse around my eyes nose and there is a hard Mass directly horizontal from my ear between my ear and nose. I went to a acupuncture or herbal Chinese doctor at a friend s request and all they did was poke these areas and squeeze whatever came out from the areas. This caused concern to me because in my opinion the last thing I should do is squeeze everything to surrounding areas. Should I go to the hospital? I don t have a doctor that I see regularly and I haven t for 10 or more years. I m 30 now.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It appears from your description that there is inflammatory reaction happening following wasp sting. Since you have tried some alternate system of medicine, it might have infected also. Kindly do the following to overcome it.

1. Cleanse the area with mild antiseptic solution like Savlon twice daily. 2. Take a course of antibiotics containing Amoxicillin with Clavulenic acid. 3. Take antihistamine medication containing Loratidine once a day.
4. Take anti-inflammatory medication containing Ibuprofen with Paracetamol twice daily after food.
5. Apply ice packs over the region where swelling is present.
6. Apply Fuscidin acid cream as a thin layer over the affected region twice daily.

Gradually, you should be able to overcome the problem. In case the response is not satisfactory or if the condition worsens, you need to seek medical attention by consulting doctor immediately.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S,
