How Can Viral And Bacterial Infection Be Differentiated?

yes, thank you. I went to a VA Hospital Clinic and have respiratory infection and the Doctor there who treated me (nice guy) prescribed antibiotics aswell as Steroids to squelch inflamation and if doesn t go away use the antibiotics. I left thinking that diagnostically could have been more thorough. I.E. bloodwork or a quick lab work to decipher whether be viral or bacterial infection whereas would know which antibiotics to Prescribe. My question; is there a fast way to find out the difference of infection being either bacterial or viral pathogens without using lab microscope. [can t wait to buy one so I can do my own research] Thank you for your input Doctor. DB.Brooks Study of Homeopathics , beginnings of.

Hi,

yes there are lab exams that help differentiate bacterial or viral infection like:

- PCR( reactive C protein) level.
- viral antigens
- pulmoni x-ray some time helps to differentiate them.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
