How can unusual eye discharges be treated?

Everyday I am picking out white gunky stuff out of both of my eyes. I sometimes can get ahold of it, and it pulls out like a long string. I find it almost every morning and then around 6 or 7 at night. I usually can just apply pressure with my finger in the corner of my eye and it pulls out. Sometimes it is in my lower eyelid and sometimes in my upper eyelid which is difficult for me to get out, but I do. I wear contacts. It happens even after putting a new pair in. I do not overwear them, I take them out around the 7 oclock at night when I start to pick out more gunk. What is the cause of this? How do I get it to stop. Its been months. My eye doctor gave me a drop to try, Tobramycin Ophthalmic Solution.I've used that up now and it is still happening.
