How Can Tuberculosis Be Treated While Suffering From Rheumatoid Arthritis?

my wife has RA 1.5 years since diagnose - now she is in the hospital after being diagnosed with TB * What can we expect, what do we have to worry about? She is already taking Meds for the rest of her life for the RA * She is only 56 years old. She was recently honored with being the 610th Executive Nurse in the USA - This award and honor has only been received 610 times in all the years and the thousand(s) of nurses that have taken the test. I mention this because who ever responses to my questions does not have to hold anything back. Hello,

First, don't worry. Tuberculosis and rheumatoid arthritis both can coexist. If TB is not multidrug resistant then only a few TB medicines are prescribed. Drug interactions can occur but it may be minimal. According to books person having pulmonary tuberculosis shouldn't be prescribed steroids but in your case for rheumatoid arthritis steroids might be prescribed.

Reason for not prescribing steroids in TB patients is because steroid decrease immunity and TB patients need good immunity for fighting with TB bacteria. You have not given enough information regarding TB category and ongoing treatment of both diseases.
