How Can Trigger Fingers Be Treated?

I am experiencing a trigger finger on my right hand, middle finger. I have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis and RA, both which run in my family and over the years I have watched my Grandparents, Parents, Aunts and Uncles start out with trigger finger and end up with their bodies, especially their hands all crippled up. My question: does Osteo and/or RA have anything to do with trigger finger? Is this the beginning of finger and hand problems for me?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Trigger finger is usually caused be tunnel carpal syndrome. I suggest you to take anti inflammatory medication for the pain such as Ibuprofen three times a day.

I also recommend wear a splint at night to keep the affected finger in an extended position for up to six weeks.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
