How Can Trigeminal Neuralgia Be Treated?

I have been diagnosed with trigeminal neuropathy but it only happens in the late spring through early fall. Have you ever heard of this seasonally affected? also it quits hurting when I'm walking for exercise. Other wise it is pretty unbearable and I don't feel that the carbamazapine or neurontin really help and pain killers and opiates do not help at all.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Trigeminal Neuralgia is not commonly seasonally effected and trigger factors for pain can be merely touching the face, splash of water, air exposure, chewing, shaving and even speaking..
It is a nerve related problem therefore neurotic painkillers are commonly helpful..
In case if Carbamazipine is not helping then other alternative like Oxycarbazipine, baclofen, Gabapantin can be tried..
If the pain still does not get better then fir get an MRI done to rule out the exact cause of the symptoms like, if it is due to compression of the nerve or other causes and then it can be surgically corrected like Microvascular decompression, balloon microcompression etc..
But everything should be done under supervision of Neurosurgeon..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
