How Can Transmission Of Genital Herpes Be Prevented?

I am a 49 year old woman who was diagnosed with genital herpes over 20 years ago. I am recently devorced. Started a daily dose of valtrex about 6 mths ago to prevent the spread of the virus to others. What is the likely hood of it being passed to a partner without pretection during sex. Early on I had a couple breakouts. Through the years I have had nearly any symptoms at all. I am starting to date now. How much danger would a partner be in if we had sex. Espically unprotected sex. This is such a stressfull thing to deal with when you think you could cause harm to another. Thank you for any advice you can give on this situation

Hello,

The risk of spreading is bigger during your active period of illness. If you are taking medication this risk is smaller but in any cases exists.

So, best advice is protected sex. In this case, you do not feel stressed and your partner is healthy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Elona Dashi
