How Can Testicular Calcification Causing Pain Be Treated?

My 16 yr old son was complaining of pain in testicle after heavy lifting. Went to er in case of hernia or twisted testicle. Ultrasound showed "calcification" in the testicle?? Doctor said it was concerning and they are going to monitor it by ultrasound in the coming months. We are very concerned- is this something that could be serious?? The doctor didn't want to give specifics and said to follow up with family dr with our concerns!

Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
Noted the history about your son of 16 getting the pain in the testicle which showed on ultrasonography the calcification in the testicle.
Yes, this condition needs proper monitoring by regular ultrasonography and color doppler examination to see whether there is any increase in problem or development of cancer or so on.
The probable causes are:
- Old injury to the testicle can show up as this.
- Teratoma a form of cancer
- Old granulomatous infections like tuberculosis.
MRI of the testes can be confirmatory.
