How Can Swollen Feet Be Treated?

My 18 year old son s feet have been swollen for the past few days. He sits in front of his laptop for hours sometimes not getting a good night s sleep. I have told him that he needs to sit with his feet elevated but he won t listen. How long should I wait before taking him to the doctor.? I would like to see if the swelling will go down on its own but am not sure if it ia wise to wait. Please advise.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern.

Sitting for too long in front of laptop will cause the blood getting sludged in the legs (not circulating well).

He needs to get his feet raised to help circulation, but best thing is to get his legs moved from time in time (cycling, jogging).

If this is not helping, should consult angiologist and run Doppler ultrasound of blood vessels in his legs to rule out blockage.

Wish fast recovery.
