How Can Swollen Feet And Ankles Be Treated?

I have been taking this medication for 6 years. For the last 2 months my feet, ankles have been swelling. Also 1 month ago I have been breaking out in blisters and they leave scarring. I can always tell where the next blister will take place I fill a sting and I get very hot in that area and than itching starts.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Swollen feet/ankles could be due to possible:
- local trauma (untreated)
- problems with blood circulation (varicose veins)
- liver/kidney/heart disease

You mentioned you take a medication for 6 years now without mentioning the name. Please write me back more details regarding this medication and lab tests you might have done.

Should run a complete blood work, and check liver/kidney/heart function. Plus a good physical examination of extremities with Doppler ultrasound to rule out problems with peripheral blood circulation. Breaking out in blisters could be due to possible virus or insect bite.

If they leave scarring could be related to skin infection. Dermatologist to consult further as might need prescription antibiotics.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
