How Can Swelling Of Feet In A 75-year-old With Neuropathy And Lymphedema Be Treated?

Hi, my question is why are my feet swollen. I am 75, and overweight. I take thyroid medicine for prescriptions. I m in average health. I ve been battling neuropathy and lymphedema for many years, but about a week or so ago, my feet have been swollen on the top and in my toes to the point that it s hard to walk and stay balanced. My lower back has more pain, and grabbing. I m wondering if I can do anything to relieve this swelling in my feet. Do you have any suggestions as to what is occurring, and how to combate the situation?

Hi,

Lower lymph swelling or edema may be due to many illnesses. The most common are renal disease, cardiovascular disease, blood circular disturbances like deep vein thrombosis and anemia. All these need to be differentiated, it can be lymphedema too. An underlying cause of this need to be treated. Till then you can keep the leg in elevated position.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
