How Can Swelling And Discoloration On The Ankles Be Treated?
Mom is 92 with various ailments. Now her ankles are swollen with some skin discoloration. Has had it for days but discoloration fading. Today off and on her left leg has “jumped” pn her- like an uncontrolled shutter and deadness behind the knee. Any immediate treatment?

Treatment may depend upon the cause. common causes are like peripheral vascular disease or deep venous thrombosis or cellulitis or eczema etc. Swelling may be due to cardiac failure or renal failure or liver failure etc.
Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Elevate the limbs, use crepe bandage. If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Possible causes of limb discolouration with swelling may be varicose veins or eczema or cellulitis or filariasis or heart failure or renal failure or peripheral vascular disease etc.
Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. please elevate the limbs, use a little dose of diuretics under your doctor supervision. Use colour doppler of lower limbs, CBP, ECG, cardia echo etc.
Please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Is she on any medication for hypertension, diabetes or any other diseases?Does she recently got her ankle injured? Take her to orthopedic doctor for ankle and knee examination. If she has diabetes and hypertension then cardiac consultation is also required.
As per my opinion immediate treatment can only be anti-inflammatory medication like ibuprofen and hot compression over ankle and knee.
