How Can Stress And Insomnia Be Treated?

Hi Doc, I am sufferring from severe mental stress because of recent issues in my relationship. I am having insomnia because of this. I would feel tired after an all day work, but when I try to sleep, I could not. Even if I get to sleep, I cannot stay asleep after 5 mins. I wake up thinking about my problems. I am having this problem for the past 3 days. Please precsribe ways to get a sound sleep and get rid of my mental stress. If you are going to prescribe me sleeping pills, please let me know if it will be provided in medical shops without a prescription slip. Also, let me know if it will have any side-effects or additive effects.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I understand your concern. You are going through stress and anxiety after a break up and three days is not a long enough time to warrant a prescription for medication. Please be aware that all anti anxiety and sleep medication come with a list of side effects, so there are other ways concerning mind set and life style changes that is best to be given a try first before resorting to medication.
Get rid of electronic devices and social media, go for long walks or jogging, give yoga a try, talk to people. This will help you put things into perspective and see things in a different light. This usually does the trick. Medication is the last resort.

I hope this helps.
Wishing you all the best.
