Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. Two days ago I got a sore throat which developed into a cough. I lost my voice, my nose is running and I am expelling yellow mucus. Today my throat is no longer sore, but my cough is deeper and my lips are swollen. Any thoughts on what I can take?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of sore throat and cough which are pointing towards upper respiratory tract infection and could be due to laryngitis which leads to inflammation of vocal cords.
- Start doing warm saline gargles. - Take steam inhalation along with vaporizers. - Avoid hot, sharp , spicy food. avoid cold beverages. - Drink one spoon of honey mix with glass of lukewarm water.
I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order throat swab test and blood test to confirm the diagnosis and rule out causes. Doctor may prescribe anti bacterial amoxicillin or anti viral acyclovir depending upon the diagnosis along with decongestants. You should go for laryngoscopy as well. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables to boost the immunity.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
