How Can Snoring Be Treated?

I sleep well eveything night but apparently I snore... a lot, says my husband. I snore with my mouth closed. But very loud. I am not overweight, I drink plenty of water and I eat clean. I just tried the breathe right straps and they don't work. Any suggestions?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Snoring needs to be evaluated by sleep study (polysomnography). The commonest cause could be OSA (obstructive sleep apnea). Snoring can be a big nuisance for the partner, however, it can be associated with bigger health hazards, such as high BP, diabetes, etc. People with snoring also have a higher risk of getting heart attacks and brain stroke. Snoring due to OSA can be well treated with CPAP machines, which needs to be used while sleeping. These are small portable devices and can be easily carried.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
