How Can Sinusitis And Post Nasal Drip Be Treated?

My allergies have gotten worse year by year. While living in Austin for 18 years, I had a chronic sinus infection and nasal drip. Since moving to Fort Worth, I developed worse problems. I do live next to Trinity Park and thousands of trees. I still have the nasal drip (never sinus pressure), but have developed bronchitis that turns into breathing problems. My lungs are clear but my bronchial stays congested and rattles. I have a constant tickle in my throat. Some mornings I literally can t breathe until I use the nebulizer/albuterol machine. Hot coffee helps too. I take Zyrtec in the morning along with Musinex and a prescription med in the PM. It helps for a while but the allergies continue and worsen by the week. I really need relief. I use natural oil diffusers. Scents like orange, white tea/lemongrass or eucalyptus. I do not use Glade plug-ins, but do keep my apartment smelling nice with the oils. Are oils a solvent?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Since you have a known allergy problem for so long you would definitely agree with me for the following:

The first and foremost treatment of allergic problems is avoidance of the allergens.

By this time you should have known the factors that instigate or enhance your problems and hence the thumb-rule is to avoid all such factors.

Make a list of all such factors. Once you avoid all such factors the symptoms, the complications therein and medications reduce drastically. Zyrtec and nebulization treat the symptoms and not the disease.

Furthermore go for proper investigations of blood and CT scan of nose and para-nasal sinuses to know any development of polyps and so on and to get corrected all such things either by proper medications or surgery if needed.

You may need to change the place of residence or work if changing helps you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, General Surgeon
