How Can Sickle Cell Trait Parents Conceive A Normal Child Successfully?

Hello, I'm Kenny, Age 30, Nigeria, Banker. My Fiancee and I are both sicklecell carier. I'm AS, She's SS, and age 27. I have a mdedical record of only frequent malaria (a symptom I believe to AA genotype). For her, she doesn't experiene crisis, but sometimes back pain. We do not intend to part. I'll like to know what medical options we have in terms of having a child that won't be SS. I do not mind visiting India from time to time for such services. Please kindly help out. Thanks.

Hi thanks for asking question in HCM.
I can understand your concern very well.
If you will get child then there are chances of having AS child 50% and SS child is 50%.
Now if you want not to have SS child then you have to do genetic councelling while fetus is in mother's womb at around 10 to 12 week.
Sample collected by amniocentesis or cordocentesis. Then it is screened for detection of sickle disease mutation by doing PCR.So that you can get to know whether it is AS or SS.
I hope i have solved yr query regarding it.
thanks.
I find this answer helpful

Note: For detailed guidance on genetic screening consult a genetics specialist
