How Can Shingles Be Treated?

I contracted the Shingles on November 19, 2017. I went to Urgent Care and they gave me Gabepentin for the pain. They also prescribed Acyclovir 800 mg. I stopped taking the second medication because I was told that the Shingles was viral. I have since finished the bottle. I broke out in my scalp on the right side and it has now gone to the left side, just breaking out yesterday behind my ear. Is this normal or should I ask for more Acyclovir 800 mg?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think you should take acyclovir because it is an antiviral and since shingles is viral infection it will help. If you take it as soon as possible it will help not to spread.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka
