How Can Severe Toothache Be Treated?

Hello...I am having some tooth/gum pain and have a few Robaxin tabs from a previous pain situation. I have not been able to see my dentist, yet, and have been taking 1 500mg tylenol tablet every 6 hours, along with applying a heat compress, which provides a few hours of relief. I have a Hx of TMJ. What are your thoughts? Thanks for your time.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

As per your complain in case if there is tooth/ gum.pain and it is localised to a single tooth and if you can appreciate any decay in the same, it can be probably due to dental decay..

In that case get an x ray of tooth done by a Dentist if tooth can be saved Root Canal Treatment can help in permanent resolution..

In case if there is no tooth decay and pain is generalised to the entire jaw and jaw joint area it can be probably due to flaring up of TMJ..

So my suggestion is to consult an Oral Physician and get a Panoramic x ray done and in case of TMJ, a course anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen and muscle relaxant like Chlorzoxasone can help..
Mouth guards will be advised to you..
Physiotherapy can help..
Take soft diet and avoid excessive mouth opening..

As of now continue taking Tylenol or Ibuprofen for pain relief...

Hope this helps..

Regards..
