How Can Severe Sore Throat Be Treated?
Hello, My spouse has an extremely sore throat that is very red and has several white sores. She has run a fever since Wednesday and she went to an urgent care clinic yesterday. The PA did a strep test which was negative but still believes the infection is bacterial rather than viral; they gave here an antibiotic shot and a ZPack. Today her throat pain is worse than yesterday and temperature is normal, presumably because she is constantly taking Tylenol and Ibuprofen for the pain. She has a call into the clinic since her throat pain is actually worse than yesterday.

For throat infection Z Pack (azithromycin) is perfect. For throat pain both Tylenol and ibuprofen is not required, you can take any one of them. You can also do salt water gargling to reduce soreness of throat. Azithromycin 3-5 day course will be sufficient to eradicate infection and alleviate symptoms.
