How Can Severe Pain In The Shoulders Be Treated?

Hello my father has had an issue with his shoulder due to a pinched nerve. His doctor prescribed methylprednisolone in the form of a tablet. It helped for a day and then it made his risk for in infection higher which has caused him to develop step throat and thrush. It also induced diabetes even though he has never been diabetic in his entire life. Now he suffering from fatigue, swollen tongue, weight loss, blurred vision in one eye, dizziness along with the strep throat. Even with all of these side effects the pain is coming back in his shoulder which at one point put him in unbearable pain. I would like to know if there is something other than an oral steroid that could help with his pain but have less severe side effects such as the ones he suffering from now?

Hello,

Steroids might risk him to be an infection but not diabetes. Yes, it does cause hyperglycemia and insulin resistance, but all depends on dosage. He might be having even before, and it has just diagnosed occasionally. First, it's better for him to take painkillers for now like fentanyl patch, tramadol, pethidine, morphine injection and get treated for other infections of the body. If it's under control I would suggest you get steroid infiltration done at the shoulder joint, I would promise you its the best treatment for him, and it will not act like oral and put him to infection, it just acts locally and will subside the nerve injury happening.
