Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, My son is 17 years old and plays football. He has always had problems with his knees due to sports. The orthopedic dr. said he has Osgood Schlatter... he does ice his knees every night, but because he is practicing every day, his knees have been hurting him even more. What is a good pain reliever he could take? His pain is a nagging pain & motrin hasn t really helped him.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Osgood Schlatter disease is caused by the inflammation of bone and cartilage overlying the tibia. It is a common occurrence during growth spurts. Your son can take Advil 4 times a day for pain. Apply ice, keep the affected leg elevated. It is very important to take rest and skip practice until the acute pain subsides. Physical therapy with focus on stretching and strengthening exercises can also help.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr.Lekshmi
