How Can Severe Pain In The Knees And Swollen Ankles Be Treated?

Hi Dr., both knees are killing me I had a minor car accident actually it really wasn t even a car accident I just backed up into somebody jumped out of the car real fast and hit one like since then both my knees have been killing me I m rightankle is swollen and I just noticed three weeks after this incident by my knee halfway around it it seems like there s water pocket or some kind of fluid in there at the size of a half dollar. I ve been walking funny so I have pain in both my legs but it seems like I have fluid on the ankle down below and also halfway around my knee I m just concerned it could possibly be a blood clot. I only backed up into a carin a parking lot very low rate of speed I would consider it a fender bender no damage to the car. I just woke up crying in pain from my kneesI took oxycodone than I have in the house and it s not helping but my biggest concern is the puffiness without water or fluid or blood clot I don t know what to do. I want to the emergency room day after this happened because I was fine so I don t even think this is related they did x-ray both legs and said there was no brakes but apparently something is wrong. It hurts from the top of my knee about 2 inches down my right ankle swelling never one away and now it seems like it traveled up to the right leg by my knee on the side. I m having problems walking and the pain is excruciating please help, could this be a blood clot?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The excruciating pain sounds to be meniscal injury or so forth.

An MRI of both knees is mandatory for further management guidelines.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel,
General Surgeon
