How Can Severe Pain In The Knees And Shin Bone Be Treated?

i had surgery 7 years ago for a shattered tibial plateau, i have 13 pins, 1 very large steel plate that runs down the side of the bone and plenty of cement to try and hold it all together. For most part I do ok but i suffer chronic pain daily, and when it flares up the muscle that would normally site to the outside of the bone, moves across and covers the shin bone, it attaches itself there as quckly as it can and then i have to have extreme physio to remove it off the bone and try to replace it where it should be, it wont attach itself there due to the metal plate. i get to the point of extreme pain, so much that i would cut it off if i had the option. General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,my name is dr,Dorina Gurabardhi.I understand your concern.
Some advices that I can give to you are:
-Do use "RICE." So rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE) is good for knee pain . Give your knee some rest, apply ice to reduce swelling, wear a compressive bandage, and keep your knee elevated.
-Don't overlook your weight.
-Do exercise
-Do consider acupuncture
-Use a cold pack to ease swelling and numb the pain. Use it for 15 to 20 minutes three or four times a day. Wrap your ice pack in a towel to be kind to your skin. After that, you can heat things up with a warm bath, heating pad, or warm towel for 15 to 20 minutes, three or four times a day.
-Use analgesics like ibuprofen,naproxen.
Hope my answer was helpful,if you have any other question I will be glad to answer, thanks!
