Hi,

Depression is a common thing observed after the death of loved ones as in your mother's case.

Such things can happen to anyone. However, it is non-permanent and with time she will feel ok. Let me tell you to get an appointment with a psychiatrist. She may need a drug therapy for some time. However, this can be managed by non-drug therapy as well:
1) Don't keep her alone.
2) Engage her in physical activity.
3) Talking to friends or social interaction can reduce it.
4) Support her emotionally.
5) Engage her in humorous discussions.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
