How Can Severe Diarrhea, Nausea, Bloating And Flatulence Be Treated?

I have a 4 day h/o nausea, diarrhea, bloating. Nausea is gone now but I have a large amount of watery diarrhea, aversion to food. Yesterday I started having huge amounts of gas, stomach gurgling and still the diarrhea. I have been on liquids, and some yogurt. In the beginning there were some stomach pains similar to gastritis but those stopped 2 days ago. Currently the problem is the watery diarrhea, gas and weakness. I did have gastritis once 15 years ago. No other GI problems. I am on lansoprazole, and have been taking Imodium since yesterday.

Hi,

I am sorry for the health problems you are currently going through.

Nausea, diarrhea, bloating are all signs of acute gastroenteritis. Virus are the most common causes.
It is important to keep well hydrated:
- drink plenty of water with oral rehydration salts (ORS)
- take tasectan or pepto bismol for diarrhea
- probiotics will help stabilize intestinal flora
- take antacids to optimize stomach hyperacidity
- take simethicone with carbone for stomach bloating
- light meals especially BRAT diet is encouraged (banana, rice, apple sauce, toast); yogurt and avoid gas forming foods/drinks

Imodium will helps stop diarrhea but not the causative agent. So, I recommend to start tasectan or pepto bismol instead of imodium.
If until tomorrow you won't get better, get visited by your physician as might need to run stool culture and might require prescription medicines.

Wish fast recovery.
