How Can Severe Cystitis Be Treated?

My 47 yer old Down Syndrome daughter was hospitalized and the diagnosis was E-Coli, the second episode in 3 year was very ill and in the hospital for 4 days each time. this last time episode came on suddenly without any symptons, Dx was severe cystitis. What to do a this point. She is allergic to most of the antibiotics---used Furosamine IV both times. Any suggestions on how to prevent this again?????
