Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 83. My symptom, for approximately 2or 3 years, are: daily mucus (small amounts primarily early morning) daily cough, but infrequent. daily runny nose first thing in the morning. Benzonatate has been prescribed. Is that the best drug for these symptoms? email: YYYY@YYYY
As per your clinical history, please follow like this-
1) Do a clinical examination by your Doctor [allergist] and to confirm do radioallergosorbent test (RAST).
2) Do take medicines as prescribed and discuss with your Doctor about [Nasal corticosteroids] as a spray and [Montelukast].
3) Rinsing your nasal passages with sterile saline (nasal irrigation) is a quick, inexpensive and very effective way to relieve nasal congestion. Rinsing directly flushes out mucus and allergens from your nose through a squeeze bottle or a neti pot.
To prevent it, take steps to lessen your exposure to the allergens that cause your symptoms.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
