Hi Doc, I am 34 year old male and couple of years back I experienced right shoulder dislocation while playing which was relocated under anesthesia followed by a 2 day hospitalization. About a week back I suffered the dislocation again just while rotating my arm but this time it was relocated within just 30 mins in emergency ward of the hospital. Could you please advise why did the dislocation happened the second time. Before dislocation I carried out a lot of physical activities like 5 days before dislocation heavy weight lifting over shoulders and arms What foods or exercise do I need to follow to strengthen my rotator shoulder muscles. I was tested for vitamin D deficiency will increase in vitamin D level help ?

Hello,

Shoulder is one of the most commonly dislocated joint because the anatomy of shoulder joint.

Rotator cuff tendons especially supraspinatus is most commonly injured tendon. there is no such thing as weak shoulder.

If you are involved in activities that has potential to cause shoulder dislocation then strengthening shoulder muscle (deltoid) will not prevent.

It is always good to correct deficiency of vitamin D, however, it won't have any effect on frequency of shoulder dislocation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Saralkumar R. Desai, General & Family Physician
