How Can Pregnancy Be Confirmed?

Hello, I have questions concerning possible pregnancy. Let me start off by saying I have a 30-31 day cycle and my LmP was March 17th and I ovulated April 2. I was sexually active ( unprotected) the whole fertility week. Usually during Pms I have numerous intense symptoms and spotting a couple of days before period start date. I have not been experiencing any symptoms beside nauseous, sensitivity to smell, major fatigue. Other than those I have been feeling fine but different . Something about my body doesn't feel the same but today I started my period. The only symptoms I'm having now is nauseous and cramps but they still don't feel like the ones I'm used to. I had a talk with my mother who says because my conception date was so close, that my body might have not had time to send out hormone warning for the period to holt. My mother of 4 also states that while pregnant, test didn't come back positive until 5months and she also had break through bleeding when pregnant. I understand everybody is different so we can't really go by pregnancy standards. I'm just worried because I've had a situation like this before and ended up having a miscarriage because doctors here won't give you an ultrasound without positive urine test. I know for my body I have Dysfunctional uterine bleeding from hormone imbalance so there's a chance my hcg would be slowing rising .So what should I do? Should I still test but wait longer?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi i do care for your concern.
First dysfunctional uterine bleeding is a entirely different that occurs in latter part of life.
The thing to note is the urine pregnancy test detects the beta HCG levels, and it will be significant enough to be detected after missing your period (if conceived)
I would advise to go for UPT and confirm it first then to go for USG scan, it will help to confirm pregnancy.
since UPT is home based there might be errors in using then. better to go for laboratory assay.
Hope i have answered your question, if you have more feel free to ask.
Thank you.
