Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You may find relief by taking the following medications: Antiallergic like Levocetrizine, Decongestant like phenylephrine(take only if not suffering from hypertension), Mucolytic like Ambroxol, Antacid like Rantac, Nasal decongestant spray like Oxymetazoline. Drink lots of warm fluids. Do steam inhalation. Avoid cold and sweet food as they increase mucus production.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello. I have been having what I believe to be post nasal drip for about three years now. It gets worse around fall and I feel like something is stuck in the back of my throat and I have to constantly clear my throat. Sometimes I feel like it is seeping into my lungs and that causes me to panic because I fear I won t be able to breathe. I take allergy medication and use different nasal sprays and nothing seems to work. I know I would feel a lot better if I was assured that this sensation is harmless.

I am just coming out if a cold and experiencing what feels like post nasal drip into my throat. When i have this, my throat tends to feel swollen and swallowing feels difficult. Besides doing sinus rinsuses to try and eliminate some of the mucus secretions, I am trying to find solutions for this problem. Gargling with ice cold water helps a little (warm water with salt makes it feel worse), and Mucinex does not seem to be my answer.
