Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my husband is 50,has post nasal drip that is getting into lungs causing his chest to tighten up like an asthma attack. then he coughs until he coughs up phlegm. nothing is helping and we are getting no answers. he did have childhood asthma. don t think it s allergies. it s very random and happens at random times of day but is very bad at night. past couple of yrs he would get it in winter and it was over by feb. this yr it s now july and been 4months. he has almost died twice from not being able to breathe, thank god we live close to the hospital!! we are thinking maybe chronic bronchitis but do you get post nasal drip with that?? also no fever.
hello there, it sounds to be asthma attacks , allergen can be anything from dust to mites. please if possible get his CT scan of head and paranasal sinuses done along with CT chest to rule out various causes of lung for his sympyoms. if he has been on continuous treatment for asthma and the treatment includes steroids then there is a chance that the mucosal layer thins out of the nasal and oral cavity due to which post nasal dribbing can be present or roof of nasal cavity can be having some leak. till then try tablet montelukast LC at bed time. consult your doctor for the same. keep his head high while lying down and sleeping. regards
