How Can Pneumonia Be Managed?

My husband was just diagnosed with pneumonia yesterday and started on moxifloxacin 400 mg daily. I am giving him lots of fluids. He takes synthyroid 125 mug in the morning. His first dose of the antibiotic was given yesterday at 1pm. Should I continue the antibiotic at the same time. Is it ok to take vitamin c. Any meal suggestions? Should be stay in bed or have him rest not the couch? Is this antibiotic effective for pneumonia?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Moxifloxacin is a standard antibiotic prescribed for pneumonia. The antibiotic should be taken at roughly the same time. Pantaprazole, before breakfast on an empty stomach will take care of any gastrointestinal side effects like diarrhea due to the antibiotic.

There is no reason why he needs bed rest. He can move about the house. There is nothing indicating that vitamin C should not be taken. No food restrictions.

If your husband starts having severe difficulty breathing, which is unlikely since he is able to move around the house right now, he should visit the hospital, where they can put him on a nebuliser to relieve the breathlessness. Wishing your husband a speedy recovery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan
