How can persistent cough with sore throat and blocked sinuses be treated?

Hi! I have had cold/bronchial like symptoms for weeks now... light sore throat, stuffed sinuses, I am constantly coughing up green mucous and it doesn t seem to be subsiding. I lost my voice last week for a few days and made a drink of Braggs cider vinegar, water and honey warmed and sipped which helped. This cough is driving me crazy! I am 59 years old, no allergies that I know of, a bit portly and in perfect health with the exception of this (going on over 10 day) condition... I also work with disabled preschoolers who always seem to have something ... should I head to the local health center for a check up if things don t get better by Monday? This has been coming and going since May 15th or so. Oh yes, I have also been using my netty pot for the stuffiness.

Hello,

It may be due to upper respiratory tract infection.

You may require antibiotics, complete hemogram,, chest X Ray, throat swab after physician consultation.

Take steam inhalation and Betadine gargle twice a day.

You can apply nasal saline drops and take cough syrup containing phenylephrine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,

My mum had a slight cold with a really sore throat about 4weeks ago. She has a chesty cough now and I went to the doctors with her. She is on 4th day of taking antibiotics and has just 1 more day to go. Even though it is slightly improved i.e. not coughing so much it does not seem to be that much better to me. She does not smoke and is not coughing anything up either. She is eating and drinking lots of fluids and otherwise seems fine. How long ill the antibiotics take to kick in?

Hi, I have been having sore throat and dry and sometimes phelgm cough, after an episode of gastroenteritis(lasted a week). The sore throat and cough have not gotten better for 2 weeks+. There is phelgm sometimes but not enough for me to be able to spit it out and figure out the colour. The coughing has kept me up at night and no cough syrup has done the trick. There are more episodes of coughing at night. I used to occasionally smoke(10 a week) for a period of last 8 months and am wondering if its just the cilia growing back. I haven t smoked even one cigarette for the period I am sick(2+ weeks). I am quitting completely as it isn t something I am addicted to. My main concern right now is this cough, as it does not sound like a normal cough and it feels like I am coughing through a straw while my inner chest walls vibrate hard with each cough. Thank you for all your help.
