How Can Peripheral Neuropathy Be Treated?

Hi, I am 89; have neuropathy in my feet. This has gone on for about ayear and a half or so. I do not have diabetes or the other usual causes. I went to a doc, an orthopedist who specializes in foot problems. He said that nerves wear out like other body parts. He prescribed neurontin (misspelled?) which I tried briefly but didn t feel it helped. I am reading about TENS online as a possibility. Any suggestions?

You'd certainly want to be tested for heavy metals, b12 deficiency in addition to diabetes and thyroid.
basically any drug that damps down nerves can be very helpful. Lidocaine as gel or patch is one of the best Also any anti-epileptic of whiwhc neuronTIn is both the most used and one of the safest. Amitryptiline is another drug--an anttidepressant=- that has effects like both lidocaine and anti-depressants and has other effects to lower pain.
